After more research, I have decided to take the angle of exploring the ethics of sex robots in great detail. I also want to touch on the future of sex robots within my documentary, and how they may affect the functionality of online porn in years to come.
Originally, for my project pitch, I titled my project 'Let's Talk About Sex: The Ethics of Humanoids'. I have since changed this title to 'The Ethics of Sex Robots in a Digital World'. This is because I felt that the original title was not entirely clear and did not suit the more serious remit of Radio 4, my target station.
I am planning on interviewing a range of people for my 7 minute radio documentary in order to establish an array of opinions in order to be able to explore the ethics of sex robots more deeply. Some current interviewees include: Futurologist Dr Ian Pearson, author Jerry Barnett and sex robot owner Arran Lee Squire. These individuals will provide a pro-sex robot stance for my documentary and in the instance of Arran Lee Squire, will provide a crucial case study that I can use.
I need to make sure that the journalistic principle of balance is effectively used in my documentary, so I am going to arrange an interview with the prominent sex robot activist Dr Kathleen Richardson and feminist Kate Davis who will provide differing perspectives.
At the moment I also am interested in interviewing people who work in the porn industry to see how sex robots will affect the future functionality of porn. I am fully expecting these interviews to throw up come differing ethical considerations which I could include in my final edit, and which may shape the narrative of my script.
